I'm not sure I agree with all of this article; I'm not one for using standardized tools because the most popular and standardized things are also usually the biggest targets for attacks and exploits.  Also, using individual products instead of a turnkey solution can work just fine, as long as those tools are tied together to simplify and/or automate things (even if that just means a well written batch/script file).  That said, there's some good advice to be had here. https://www.makeuseof.com/6-ways-to-simplify-your-cybersecurity-efforts/
